Hey all!
Picture this: you've got a juicy 6+ hour layover in Doha. What would you do?
Well, fear not, because Polina and I have crafted the ultimate itinerary to make the most of her time here.
We've had an absolute blast last Thursday. We've gallivanted around this mesmerizing city, ticking off all the must-see spots on my list to show P. From iconic landmarks to hidden gems, we've covered it all. 🌟
Qatar National Museum (aka Desert Rose).
In Doha, during this holy month Ramadan, it's like the city takes a siesta from 2 pm to 8 pm. Though we had to skip museum hopping during this time, we enjoyed our first stop in the great outdoors. When sun starts going down - it is my favourite time to walk around the museum. The QNM, bathed in that warm, golden light, is an absolute sight to behold! ✨
Corniche & Fish Market
After enjoying the museum's garden, we stepped onto the lively main road, crossed it, took a left, and followed the corniche. Along the way, we stumbled upon a charming marina, where boats of all shapes and sizes awaits for strollers' admiration.
If you follow our rout, keep your eyes peeled for the fishermen, catching the warm sunset rays as they deftly clean their nets in (yet) cool breeze. Give your legs a little workout with a jog to the right, weaving through the fishermen until you reach the end of the pier. And there it is, a stunning skyline of West Bay.
Old Doha Port
Now, after you've had your fill of the salty air, cool breezes, and the gentle sway of the pier, it's time to head back to the corniche and continue the journey towards the Old Doha Port.
This port has two distinct parts: first, there's the industrial side with its colorful containers, which, let's be honest, doesn't quite scream "Wow". But because just a little further lies the real gem - what I like to call "Little Havana" or "Greece" vibes.
Here, you'll find a pier boasting the most enchanting indoor fish market you've ever laid eyes on, surrounded by cozy local coffee shops and charming eateries. Trust me, this spot is a peaceful haven amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, and it's practically begging to be photographed.
As the sun dipped towards the horizon and the distant sound of the cannon signaled the time for Iftar, we found ourselves in luck – it was now permitted to dine in public places. Just in the nick of time, we stumbled upon the perfect waterfront coffee spot.
With an outdoor area boasting stunning views, we sat back, watched as the last light caressed the surroundings, and indulged in our well-deserved latte and matcha concoctions. Ah, the perfect pitstop.

Leaving Doha Port we enjoyed another Ramadan miracle, where muslim families came out to parks to have iftar-picnic with their families. Was a lovely vibe passing through but here we found two lonely scooters that were calling us. Why not? it is about 30 minutes walk to MIA (Museum of Islamic Art). of course it is still too early to go to the museum itself, but we still can walk around it and then go to the park behind it to see one of the best view for West Bay skyline.
In just 15 minutes, we reached the park, wasting no time in zipping to the tip of it for that promised view. As we gazed out over the West Bay skyline, bathed in the soft glow of twilight, it felt like a moment frozen in time. Sometimes, the most spontaneous detours lead to the most unforgettable experiences. 🛴

Souq Qaqif
Our adventure culminated in Souq Waqif, where we embarked on a delightful stroll through the winding streets of this old historical town. Lost in the labyrinth of bustling markets, we immersed ourselves in the vibrant tapestry of sights, sounds, and scents.
But it was our culinary escapade that stole the show. In one of my favorite hidden gems in the Souq, we treated ourselves to mouthwatering Yemeni cuisine. Sure, it may not be a typical fancy restaurant in the Middle East – in fact, it's quite the opposite. But let me tell you, the flavours could easily rival any high-class eatery.
Now, if only I could remember the name... Ah well, there's always next time! Consider this a tasty little mystery waiting to be solved on your own Souq Waqif adventure.
And that's about it! With our feet (and scooters) covering a little over 14 kilometers of Doha's wonders, it's safe to say we gave it our all. By the time the clock struck 10, we were out like lights, sleeping like the dead.
